EXTRACTION METHOD: There are over 400 species of geranium, although only a few are grown to create essential oils. Pelargonium graveolens or Geranium Rose is cultivated for its rose like fragrance and its plethora of therapeutic benefits. The essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation using the leaves and stalks.
Geranium Rose is an extremely popular oil in aromatherapy. The beautiful floral aroma, similar to roses, is said to be uplifting and balancing. The delicate scent can help create a calming atmosphere, ideal for relaxation. Geranium Rose is a far more affordable alternative to Rose Otto Essential Oil, whilst still boasting therapeutic benefits.
One of the best essential oils for skincare, its balancing and astringent properties, mean it’s a beneficial oil to add to your beauty regime. It has clarifying and cleansing powers so is ideal for cleansing and toning. Geranium Rose is good for all skin types particularly those with oily and/or mature skin. It is a must have oil for your homemade skincare formulations. Do not use undiluted on the skin.
Geranium Rose can be a lovely addition to a massage oil blend. With its relaxing properties and its beautifully fragrant scent, this therapeutic oil is the perfect all-round oil. It blends well with many other oils so try experimenting and make your own massage oil blends.
Your hair will love Geranium Rose too. Its balancing and clarifying properties can help maintain a healthy scalp. It can be added to shampoo and the long lasting fragrance will make your hair smell like a bunch of roses!
Dilution: If you are going to use Geranium Rose on your face as part of your skincare regime, we recommend you use 0.5% of the finished blend, approx. 10 drops or 0.5ml of essential oil to 100ml of carrier oil. Do not use undiluted on the skin. You can use up to 2-3% dilution for use on your body or in the bath.
Skincare: Geranium Rose is great for skincare with its beautiful aroma and its wealth of skincare benefits. Add a few drops to Geranium Rose floral water for a super quick and easy homemade toner. You must remember to shake it before use to disperse the oil. Use a cotton wool pad to sweep the toner across the skin after you have cleansed.
Aromatherapy: Use Geranium Rose in your diffuser or oil burner and immerse yourself in the delicate and uplifting aroma. Try adding to a warm bath for a relaxing soak.
Massage: This versatile oil blends well with many other floral and citrus oils. Combine with your favourite essential oils and a carrier oil for a personalised massage oil. We love Apricot Kernel (#204) and Grapeseed (#210). Get experimenting to create your perfect massage oil blend. The possibilities are endless!
In the bath: Mix a few drops with one of our carrier oils and add to your bath to give a wonderful aromatic spa experience to your bathroom, leaving you smelling lovely and your skin feeling silky and smooth.
Haircare: For smooth, silky and healthy looking hair, add a few drops to your shampoo and conditioner.
